Wonderful

You gave me
sand
and shells,
shared brush
and ink
and color...
a bouquet of Autumn leaves
and poems,
sunrise,
sunset,
peaceful moments beneath the moon...

You asked me
‘If you had five years left to share,
how would you live?’
and quietly
I listened for the answer...

then fell the winter
the unrelenting silent time
before the Spring
before the seemingly forced acceptance
before the fleeting moments of understanding
and letting go...

yet, like an unnameable star,
your light shines each day
perhaps upon the wisdom tree
you have become
perhaps now, I am jellyfish
branches and tentacles
separated only by the veil
we pass through once,
like a glimmer of starlight
upon the surface by which we see...

here, now
your presence still flows in me
in hummingbirds by the shore
the edge flowers blooming by the stream
the whisper of poetry in the mist
rising on the ridge lines above the sea...
in the rainbows dancing there...
in Autumn leaves
once again turning bright
teaching us as they fly
‘In release... we begin’
then,
falling through uncertainty
into
Wonderful

Meadow Lake Sky

like the meadow
we lay open,
open for the flowers of spring
finding their moment to flourish…
like the lake
we rest calmly,
calmly for the winter swan
to grace us with its vibrant essence...
like the sky
we are present for the light
sun,
moon,
star...
revealing the colors resting deeply in our heart
perhaps patience
is being the meadow...
compassion,
the lake...
simplicity
the sky...
perhaps
love
is all that stirs our heart and soul

to know the sun

we never know
when clouds may break
for sun to shine upon our heart
when morning mist may rise
for rainbow waterfalls
to grace our path
and dreams to find
their wishing star
yet within each moment
light and rain
nourish
our brittle leaves and roots
and we begin,
we begin again
in wonder
of mystery
unfolding
within each wakeful hour
we’re blessed...
marveling
when unexpected rays of kindness
find their home
within the ocean of our soul
and we awake,
awakening again and again
to greet the morning light
to share abundance of the day
gently welcoming
the truth and beauty life reveals
in softness
of blossoms
opening
to know the sun

a thousand, thousand blessings

in Spring
clouds of promise
share drops of prose
upon grateful petals

in Autumn
leaves of poetry
call us to fly
painting stories
upon welcoming skies

and each day
flowers teach of patience,
butterflies remind us
we are not our past
we are not our future
we are not our minds

we are presence and light
a thousand, thousand blessings
wrapped within
unfolding moments
flowing across
the seasons of our days

Like Fish Reach Water

To know
many mountains
many friends
~ treasure

To know
a mountain
a dear friend
deeply
~ loving abundance

Like fish reach water,
to journey together
knowing both
~ immeasurable blessings

Songbird

Songbird

In the heart of the meadow
there is a whisper
deep within the briar.
A prayer
calling softly
In the wind
as the
bramble berries fall
to nourish the earth.
Beneath the softness
of leaf and flower,
thickets sometimes needle
with bristlecones
O
How life is such a meadow...
we journey,
seeking
a simple melody
from the Songbird
of our soul,
drawing us home.

Falling Into Sky

Late Autumn
At times
I am flood and wind...
A cascade of joys
A flowing of inspirations
A whisper of sorrows
A churning of thoughts.
Yes,
at times
I am rain
Yet,
too,
sunlight...
Both,
at once
showering and
shining
with
loving abundance
for
the edge-flowers
that grow
with me.
Oh, how I wish
to be the Lake
in the poem,
‘in the still heart
that refuses nothing,
’to be the Maple
alight with Song
falling into
the still
reflection
of grace...
Falling
Into
Sky

The Puye Cliffs

I thought I could become wise, but it is much beyond me. Far away is all that has come into being and very, very deep. Who can find it?

- Ecclesiastes, 7:24-25
